What a Canva logo and McDonalds have in common.

I LOVE Canva. It's a tool I tell all my clients about.

If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a complete design tool for anyone, particularly people who aren’t experienced designers. You can design everything from printables to invoices, flyers to infographics, even websites. Canva is probably the most popular online graphic design software out there with over 30 million users. I use the brand library feature to add colours and fonts for my clients’ own Canva accounts, creating brand-in-action templates for Instagram and Pinterest and personalised workbooks and PDFs. 

This way I’m helping ensure the brand is used effectively and correctly while providing an affordable and sustainable service to my clients. They don’t want to be paying for design services every time they want a social media graphic and if I’m honest, I don’t want to be spending my time doing that.  
With a great search function - you can literally search for anything on there, including pre-designed logos. Which got me thinking about McDonalds. Yep, the golden arches.

Now here’s the thing, McDonalds serves a purpose for a quick bite on the run but it doesn’t compare to eating a personally tailored dish, created by a talented chef who has your personal palette in mind. So while McDonalds serve as an easy, cheaper solution, if I want quality that’ll really satisfy me, I’m all about going a little more upmarket. 

It’s the same with design. While Canva is indeed an incredible tool to use alongside your full brand identity package, if you go here for your logo, it's kinda like going to McDonald's. Look around and it’s likely everyone is also consuming the same thing as you. There’s no thought, personality and uniqueness.
